The following information is to help us configure your dip switch settings on the USB Floppy device sold by PLR Electronics.

Current Known Compatibility List

Our “Current Known Compatibility List” can be found at – www.plrelectronics.com/FloppyToUSBUpgrades.pdf –  If your drive is not on the list, please feel free to Contact Us.

Determining your drive

If your drive is not on our “Current Known Compatibility List then please read below.

Drive types and settings

These dipswitches change the behavior of the USB Floppy to match actual floppy disk drive behavior. Your machine may be satisfied with a partial match, or may want an exact match.

There are eight dipswitches on the usual USB Floppy model. Only dipswitch settings 1-4 are provided here, the others can be figured out more easily. Your floppy disk drive will originally be set for DRIVE 0, or DRIVE 1 and the jumper may be visible. Dipswitch 5 must be switched OFF for DRIVE 1 (standard computer), or switched on for DRIVE 0 (not as popular).

Dipswitch 7 and 8 are usually 720kb mode when both OFF, and 1.44mb mode when both ON. If your system is not capable of 1.44mb mode (high density disks) then leave them OFF. It is safe to try 720kb first, to help first-time installation. Leave dipswitch 6 as-is. If 720kb or 1.44mb is mentioned in the chart, then you must choose which one you are using first before changing dipswitches 1-4.

Note that we cannot promise these settings will work for your system, as any solder tech can reconfigure settings and they may have done so at the manufacturer that purchased these floppy drives for use in their product. We cannot make a master list of machines and dipswitches until we have customers from every segment of the market give us feedback after their success. We do ask and appreciate any help, by emailing dipswitch combinations to us at sales@plrelectronics.com. You may also choose to post in our forums by clicking on the top menu.

The chart is not in alphabetical order. If you don’t see your model listed, then try a similar model. The Sony MPF 920 and the TEAC 235 simple is a good place to start.
